Why is he doing that?
Yeah sleep always sounds good on a flight. Yet, it is true…. it never seems to happen. Rowan pulled out his computer and book first thing. My thoughts: I don’t know why he’s doing that, he’s not gonna need those!
Rowan sit down, I said hello. And HE introduced himself first! I know that’s hard to believe but…. true story!
Before we had even taken off, I already knew Rowan was 19, traveling from Boston to Atlanta to visit his aunt and uncle with a little work related activities thrown in. He is in trade school for carpentry. Smart kid!!! He had contemplated on going to school for something else but going to school for something he doesn’t really enjoy did not appeal to him. He loves what he does! He goes to school Monday thru Thursday and interns for a company on Fridays.
We talked a lot! Imagine that!?! And shared the views of a beautiful sunset!! Rowan is an only child and he admits, maybe a little spoiled but he is very appreciative and humble. He was into Greek and Roman mythology when he was in 3rd grade…. That came up when we were playing trivia (yep, he was almost as dumb as me at it but not quite!) I’ve yet to meet anyone on flights who is really good at trivia although we did make it to the third round! After I taught him how to play solitaire, he proceeded to rock it out at Battleship kicking my butt 3 times!
His mom was a stand up comedian in London before he was born. Seriously how cool is that!?! His dad was/is a baker but does something with IT now…. way over my head for certain!
He hasn’t been in Boston long. He moved there in September from Jersey to go to school. He had lived in Philly and Delaware before then. He said his parents contemplated on moving to Savannah, GA before moving to Jersey but this was his first visit to Georgia and his first trip traveling alone! His uncle had given him clear instructions on how to navigate through the Atlanta airport but it can be maddening!
We walked together taking the “plane train”, although I never call it that, which is funny because that’s exactly what it is! We made our way to baggage claim. I pointed him in the direction of where his uncle said he would be and gave him a hug goodbye. I, of course, realized I had went in the wrong direction for my shuttle and had to turn back around.
Finally making my way out, I asked a shuttle driver if he was the right shuttle to my hotel. He said no but offered to drop me off anyway. I made it back to the hotel seeing my friends I met last week and finally making my way to my room. I said I was tired and I am! A good nights rest in a hotel bed is just what I need.
