Bloody Maria….
I was early. I got thru security quickly, even though my bag got tagged because I left my iPad in it. Seriously, I forgot I had even brought it. I, of course, apologized. The officer ran it thru the conveyer again and I was cleared and off. I scanned the bar, attempting to find someone I could make friends with.
Meet Marcus from DC. He was drinking what looked to be a Bloody Mary but was not. Instead he was giving Maria a go for her money. A Bloody Maria made with tequila instead of vodka. Who knew? A Bloody Mary sounded yummy but I could not imagine it with tequila. Ugh! He didn’t even offer me a taste, which I was totally offended by. He did try to encourage me to get one, as if he were in sales. He was not. He was retired air force traveling to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic with a friend to get some sun and relax. We compared tans and I explained how I really wanted to go somewhere warm but the only place I could find was the tanning bed, which was seriously hot as hell! I opted for a Georgia Mule and skipped Maria right up!
Marcus, like me, has been married twice. He has one child, a daughter, and we both agreed, girls can be tough!! She is in school in Savannah, GA and from the sounds of it, she is looking forward to adulthood. Her dad has explained to her that adulthood is like no other Hood she has lived in! But, girls are fierce!!! If they fail, they find a way to crawl thru the madness to survive. I think she’ll be fine!
We guessed each others ages. Marcus is 59. I guessed 54. He guessed 52. Surprisingly, I was not offended that he guessed two years older! I explained to him something my mother taught me. Always tell people you are 5 years older than what you are. He said, “So I should say I’m 64!” I said, “Yes! Cause I would have looked at you and said, ‘damn you look good for your age!’” Although I still guessed younger than he actually was!
Off to chilly Boston and a tiny plane. Let’s hope those sunsets outshine the cold I’m about to face! And let’s hope Marcus enjoys the sun as much as I think he will!
*Marcus does not have social media but has approved my story.
