Happy to be Home
Let’s go back to 2019. I’m on the island for the first time. My son, Dakota, and Maddie, come to visit. He tells me he needs to get a new phone and they are going to run to Walmart. I ask him where is the Walmart. He says, “GPS says it’s 16 miles away.” And I reply…. “Yes! Across the ocean!”
There are no Walmarts, Targets or any such thing on the island. So when I am there, I am totally isolated to big brand stores. Not that I mind. Yes, there are grocery stores, stores to buy essentials, hardware stores, etc, although I do purchase a lot online.
When I leave, I’m always excited to go shopping. When I left last Saturday, me and the sisters stopped by Walmart so I could grab something quickly. It was a quick in and out so I didn’t get to explore much. It definitely wasn’t as exciting as walking into our local Walmart tonight!! I was like a kid in a candy store! Like woah…. new carts AND I can even buy a table top ice maker or a couch if I want too…. And let’s not mention the cool baking set or the lamps and quilts and…. So many things! I could go on and on!
I opted for the cold medicine requested by my daughter. And couldn’t help but buy a huge thing of body wash of a brand I’m not able to find on the island (plus I’d pay double the price for). I could have stayed for hours exploring but unfortunately they were closing so I had to leave.
Oh how lucky we are to be able to shop so close to home without worry!! I can’t wait to go back and while I’m at it, I can get a latte at Dunkin’ Donuts! And have food delivered to my house! What!?! Omg! And as depressing as that is to some, to see our little town progress, I am going to embrace and enjoy every moment of it!!
And btw…. The Old Clayton Inn / Bridge Creek Inn is gorgeous! I’ve only seen it at night but so happy to see a building that has been unused and unoccupied for so many years shed some life!
So happy to be home!
